What's the best way to store ground coffee?
My daughter stores coffee in the freezer and takes out the amount she needs each day. She drinks lots of coffee so the ground coffee doesn't get stale. But I think taking the container out every day exposes the grounds to temperature change and moisture that ruins the coffee.
I have a new can of ground coffee, which I keep for guests since I don't drink coffee. The last can I stored on the shelf, and it got stale after a while.
Will it keep longer if I store it in the freezer?
Its a big misconception to store it in the freezer! The cold temperature dries out the beans. Coffee beans have a lot of oil and moisture in them and freezing strips it all out. They should be stored in an airtight container in a dark dry place. A tin is better than tupperware. That's why they come in a metal can.
Coffee does have a shelf life though, and will get stale after a year.
